Windsor is a city of about 200,000 people and has a Jewish community of 1,200. It is located approximately 3-1/2 hours southwest of Toronto. It borders the United States at Detroit, Michigan. There are three synagogues, and a Jewish Community Centre which has a variety of cultural and educational programs and a children’s day camp. The community has settled several families from the former Soviet Union and other European countries as well as Brazil, and Israel.
The major industry has been Automotive and Manufacturing. However, Windsor is focused on diversification.
There are very good public schools for the children, and English language programs for adults. In addition there is a very good university and a community college.
Windsor’s winter is mild compared to many other Canadian cities although it does snow on occasion. July and August can be hot and humid.
